This video contains 1v1 fights between the following classes in Guild Wars 2:
- Mesmer vs Warrior
- Necromancer vs Warrior
There are a couple key takeaways:
- Against Mesmer, it really helps to mark them with Call Target, so you can keep them sorted from their clones
- You can’t see your opponent’s cast bar, so you have the watch the animations of your opponent to determine what they’re doing, and counter accordingly. For example, the Necro did a good job interrupting my first two attempts at casting Kill Shot, the Warrior burst ability with a long cast time, but he ate the third Kill Shot for 6499.
In the video I am spec’d with my “Run and Gun” Warrior build.
Vote For the BWE3 Class I’ll Play
For the next Beta weekend (July 20-22), I’m going to let you folks decide which class out of the following I’m going to try next: Engineer, Mesmer, Necromancer, Ranger, Thief. The current vote tally is here.

I vote Thief, I would be interested in hearing your take on the Initiative system compared to other classes.
Nice video! Unfortunately I might only be able to play on sunday since I’ll be away for most of the weekend. As for which class you should play, I say mesmer.
Double Pistol Thief! I also want to hear what you think about initiative and how to best regen in through traits.
Thief! I’m interested in what build you can come up with and it’s always nice to see more gameplay video of my chosen profession.
I really hope they make it so you can’t call target like that on mesmers. Really really hope the UI doesn’t let you circumvent their class mechanics.
Why not?
IIRC when you spawn clones it breaks the target symbol.
It didn’t look like it did. But it would almost have to you think, otherwise spawning clones is pointless
Engineer!!!
Would love to see what you do with the Mesmer so +1 vote from me for that class.
Would like to see some Mesmer play from you, especially with the balance changes they’ve done for this upcoming BWE.
Ranger.
Vote mesmer +1
I would like to see you play a Thief.
Thanks for all the great content.
+Thief
I want to hear what you think of the initiative system vs the cooldowns that other classes have; will this lead to spamming the “best” skill vs using everything in your arsenal?
I’m voting mesmer. I’m looking to play mesmer for the BWE3 event, would like to see what different styles of play it could be available. The more perspectives the better.
I vote mesmer, it’s the class I’m most interested in, and would love to see your take on it.
I’d like to see you play thief for the upcoming BWE, the initiative system is really interesting as far as design goes, especially when every other class is using a cooldown system, and I would love to see your take on it.
I’d like to see some mesmer builds / footage with your finesse on them :)
Good content as usual. Keep up the good work.
I hope they’ll fix the perms target thing since mesmers are getting clones with symbols as well…at least somewhat. Anyways, nice vid, I wouldn’t mind fighting your warrior w/my mesmer. I bet I’d win ;)
I would love to see how you would play an Engineer, so that’s my vote!
Hey! My vote also goes toward thief. (My third party candidate is ranger, just because that class has been getting zero publicity as far as I have seen). I drew up an in ‘n’ out thief spec utilizing dagger/pistol and pistol/dagger with lots of conditions and shadowstepping, but that second weapon set wasn’t really convincing, so I’d be interested to see what you come up with. The thief looks to have a lot of really interesting opportunities for subtle variation.
As an off topic question, are you and Maven still in Jung Ma now? I just transferred over yesterday and didn’t recognize anyone. I heard that mouretsu broke up and that a lot of players transferred again to Bastion. I left for one month and now my whole swtor PvP world is upside down man!
Mouretsu no longer exists as a SWTOR Guild, however as a GW2 Guild we are stronger than ever, with our Original Members, and some new additions from various Ajunta Pall PvP Guilds
I’m sorry to hear that, I enjoyed going against you guys in the WZs. See you in GW2!
Mesmer! Definitely.
I vote mesmer.
Mesmer! :)
I vote Engineer
Thief!!! I have to see how you would play it.
I’m a big fan of your builds and since my main is going to be a thief I would love your input
Thief, like many other said, due too the unique resource system they have.
Ranger, for selfish reasons.
Wouldn’t mind seeing some engineer game-play to see how diverse it really is.
Mesmer please! Just looking at them on paper they seem like they are trying to do too many things, and the clone system seems to me to be a hinky gimmick to build a class around, especially if the UI can circumvent it. I’d love to see your critical thinking come to bear on the class and prove me wrong!
I would like to see what you’d put together for a mesmer. I’m actually very excited about taking on the challenge of mastering the class myself – as there seems to be a lot going on with it.
I vote Thief.
I vote Ranger.

Hey Taugrim
So I was playing with warrior builds and I found this one to be very effective for a dps warrior in pvp.

Weapons are GS/Axe+Shield
Heal: Mending
Utility: Balanced Stance, Endure Pain, Bulls Charge
Elite: Signet of Rage
You have crazy amounts of burst, and if someone is even off their game in the slightest you can just ruin their day.
