Rift Warrior PVP Video, Volume 2: Riftblade / Paladin @ 21

Here’s my 2nd Rift video:

This HD video is narrated footage of my level 21 Warrior in a Codex warfront (queued solo) in the 20-29 bracket in the MMORPG Rift.

Here is my spec:
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0c_Lh..xMszdsz0z.xoo

P.S. I wanted to get this video out sooner, but I had to address the frame rate issue for the game. You can read about what I tried and what worked for ATI graphics card here:
https://taugrim.com/2011/03/03/boosting-frame-rate-in-rift-ati/

Here are the macros that I have found useful so far:

Gap Closer

#show riftwalk
cast bull rush
cast riftwalk

Spam Attack

#show retaliation
cast retaliation
cast aggressive block
cast frost strike
cast flamespear

FB/FS

#show fiery burst
cast Fiery Burst
cast Flamespear

AOE Snare

#show Earth Burst
cast Earth Burst
cast flamespear

For the above macros, note that I have created a macro for each ability (e.g. Rift Surge, Fiery Burst, Earth Burst) that spends Attack Points, so that I can make sure to control when that valuable resource is spent.

If you have questions/comments/feedback, post ’em!

You could have told me to shut up, I didn’t know you were fighting in the thick of it. LOL.

It was fun talking to you while I was playing. Multi-tasking FTW!

The sad thing is I had to ask you the same questions after the match because I missed some of what you were saying.

Very nice ;) The codex is a great battleground.

I am not sure if your AOE macro works. It seems not to cast the flamespear.
And i cant understand the use of the RS/FS macro, since RS is on the global cd timer.

    Keep it up!

It works, but you have to hit it twice quickly, otherwise instead of casting:

      Fork then Flamespear

      you will cast

      Fork then Fork

And i cant understand the use of the RS/FS macro, since RS is on the global cd timer.

You’re right, I’ll remove it. For some reason I must have thought Rift Surge was treated as a Burst ability.

    Hey Taugrim

Love your contributions to the community.

In looking at your macros and your video, I kept watching for Freeze Armor. You have three points in your build but your snare seems to rely on Earthburst

    • taugrim says:

I have Freeze Armor not macro’d. It’s on my “S” key for “Snare”

I haven’t sorted out whether I am using FA often enough.

  4. Dinara says:

    Hi Taugrim,

If you have an aoe snare macro, you should have one for aoe root too :D

    Cast Fork
    Cast Stonespear

If you get your RB tree up to Windspear, one more for aoe silence

Hey Taugrim, i m a follower of your prot pvp guide in wow and its great to see u in RIFT.

Few questions, one how do u get bull rush with just RB n pally souls?

two, u were at saying at the end of the video u re going to stack endurance n crit to offset the non-scaling of RB and gear. Do u think that really works? i mean if the damage stays the same and even if u crit 50% of the time i doubt it would be comparable to people in top tier 50 gear.

    • taugrim says:

      0 pt in Champ tree.
That being said, I switched to 0 pt in VK instead for the 5% magic mitigation.

I’ll let you know when I ding 50 and can test :)

      • Actblur says:

        fair enough =)

but thanks again on a great guide, especially for beginners like me who’s looking for a great lvling build.

As much as I want to love RIFT.. when I see these videos, I find the character movement stiff and awkward and not as smooth as WOW. The realisms is nice but no better IMO. Also, the interface looks exactly the same as if we’re still playing WOW. Lastly, I find it daunting that there are so many possibilities in character trees and specs. How will you ever know what the heck you are fighting?

Just don’t know if it is worth the learning curve and time to switch over…

Love the blog though. Thanks Taugrim.

All MMORPG’s have a slightly different feel. You get used to it.

Rift’s graphics are superb. Whenever I block my shield comes up. It looks sweet. I was taking archer focus fire last night and blocking lots of arrows.

Lastly, I find it daunting that there are so many possibilities in character trees and specs. How will you ever know what the heck you are fighting?

Every game has a learning curve.

I actually find learning the specs and capabilities to be highly enjoyable.

Lastly, Rift classes are so flexible. You can roll a Healer (Cleric), and spec that Healer to be anything you want: HoT healer, cast-time healer, melee AOE healer, meleer DPS, etc.

All in one class. This is a huge huge advantage of Rift relative to every major MMO I have played recently (WoW, LOTRO, Warhammer, Allods Online, Aion).

    Oi! Taugrim,
Good to see you making your way to Rift. Agony is also making the transition, although a significant numbers are still playing WAR and even a small group still in PvMP in LOTRO. We are on Shadefallen, on the Defiant side of things, exploring the PvE. Undoubtly we will head to PvP soon, but after 2.5 years of RvR we are enjoying non-buging dungeons that drop useful gears :-)
Agony is always open if you felt a need to pop on Shadefallen. Alternatively we might meet you in warfronts, and I am confident most have not forgotten your character’s name (/focus Taugrim :-)
    Cheers
    Rukgrok

I would like to know if you can help out with the macro’s as im new to mmo’s and dont understand them.

  9. jorge says:

    thank you

  10. Choczin says:

I really enjoy watching your videos and reading your strategy; it’s already improved my pvp play. Are you using the ESDF keys as your movement in Rift as you mentioned in previous game vids and do you like to hit the attack keys with your right hand? Or are you moving and attacking with both ? It seems alot of your hot keys are on the left side of the keyboard.

  11. Absolutely says:

First off thanks for the videos. hey have been really useful and have helped out a lot. I just started in macro things together. What other macros are you using in his video that you didnt list?
