I wanted to share this milestone with y’all:
I haven’t posted in a couple weeks, because I’ve been busy in RL and didn’t play Rift for a week. I was able to play again this past weekend.
Some gaming friends suggested that we check out Sunrest, the other RP-PVP server for Rift. I wasn’t terribly excited by the thought of re-leveling to endgame, but I gave Sunrest a go over the weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised by Sunrest’s community and the positive interaction between players in warfronts (battlegrounds). By comparison, warfront chat in the battlegroup for Harrow, the server I have been playing on with my Warrior, is extremely flame-oriented and can be tiresome to deal with.
Sunrest has been refreshing, and this time around I tried a Mage to the mid-teens as Chloromancer, then rolled a Cleric to play as Justishamitor (Justicar / Shaman / Inquisitor). I’m going to stick with the Cleric: the mechanics suit me well, and I’ve always loved melee-healer archetypes.
EDIT (2011/06/01): I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my Warrior. Right now Enhanced Burst is broken, so Riftblade burst and sustained DPS is below what it should be. I’m enjoying Cleric, so I’m going to level him and record footage along the way. Healers seem more needed than DPS, and Cleric can spec into any role effectively for PVP.
EDIT (2011/06/02): re-rolled the Cleric with the name Taugrim; a friend had been holding the name for me and he just released it. This time around I replaced Inquisitor with Warden, and IMO as a 0-pt tree Warden fits melee Cleric better, as you get 2 instant-cast abilities: a HoT (Healing Spray) and a spammable ranged attack (Waterjet).

I’m playing Taugrimm (note the double “m”) on Sunrest, Guardian faction.
If it weren’t for the long (3-hr) login queues for Sunrest on the first day of Head Start, I would have been there from the beginning.
Oh well, lesson learned. I was just in a hurry when I bought the game to try it out. Next time I think waiting for the right server makes sense, esp as many of the guilds/players I’ve played with/against from other games ended up on Sunrest.

Congrats. Im enjoying Harrow so far, but yet to make it to 50. When the character transfers go live, I might shop around a bit as well.

Not sure what I am going to do. My guess is transfers TO Sunrest won’t be an option when the transfer functionality goes live. We’ll have to see.

Grats on 2K, I was also thinking in rolling in Sunrest I always liked RP servers as they tend to gather a more mature player base. Do you have a guild there or plan to create one? I’m a casual player but PVP is all I do when in game. Got my warrior to rank6 and I was thinking in rolling a cleric as well….

Yes, we created a guild with some like-minded PVP players.
Basically, we’re looking for mature, competent players who will try to get decently baseline geared/runed, want to run group PVP, and are not looking to get carried.
If that sounds good, give me a shout in-game.

That’s exactly what I’m looking for, a group of mature players that behave as such,PvP is already full of childish loudmouths and we should set an example.
Competitive to the max but always respectful regardless of the outcome is my MO.
On my server I basically leveled my warrior to rank6 just pugging, never run a single pre-made since I was one of the few that liked PvPed there.
Cant wait to hear what you have to say about clerics, I’m really liking their versatility.

Well since a couple of days ago Trion got seastone, spitescar, sunrest, aedraxis, faeblight, Belmont and lotham onto the same WF queues. I noticed a much faster Q time, but also its refreshing to play against some of the other servers we havent played against before (originally in the same group as seastone, spitescar, belmont and Aedraxis). I personally didn’t notice much difference in amount of flame in WF chat from when sunrest was added to the group, you always get the kids, but majority of players are ok.
If you roll on Sunrest would be great to play with you (or I should say against you – I am on Guardian Faction)
I also noticed that RB burst enhance dmg is abit broken at the moment. Compared to my champ/vk/para build with the R6 2hander axe, you cannot even start to compare dmg @ 1K+ Chain Crits (Even compared to the R6 longsword).
If you roll on Sunrest would be great to play with you (or I should say against you – I am on Guardian Faction)

The culture on Harrow is pretty bad. Last night was a bad night for Defiants. Lots of guardian premades stacked with cleric healing across all the warfronts. One game in particular Guardians had 6 clerics, all in healing or hybrid heal/DPS specs. They only died a handful of times. People on our side immediately started to lay into each other. I treid to explian that with that much healing, we really dont stand muich chance and got flamed by the others, who then spent the rest of the WF blaming everyone else. it was really tiresome.

Could you post your Justishamitor spec? Is it 11 in Justicar and the rest in Shaman, or max in Justicar with overflow in shaman? Thanks!
I’m trying both, actually. Justicar is definitely worth stacking to 12 points, whether you continue in the tree after that is based on playstyle.
If you have Inq as 3rd tree, then you should continue in Justicar to 16 points for Doc of Righteousness.
If you have Warden as 3rd tree, you can stop at 12 in Justicar.
Glad you said you put your pvp warrior on hold. I did the same, just working on PvE at the moment on Rasmolov. I re-rolled a Cleric and I am lvl 18 at this point, any fun builds yet? Please post.
Basically, put 12 in Justicar until you have Reparation, just skip the Armor talent. After that, you can continue putting points in Justicar or go Shaman.
I just re-rolled my Cleric again (Taugrim name was freed up by my friend who had squatted on it for me) and went Warden for my 3rd tree instead of Inq, and Warden is better than Inquisitor IMO for 0 points, because you get 2 instant cast abilities – a HoT and a ranged attack.

Which build is better partially depends on healing. If healing is strong, go 2H CH spec.
You took 2 talents in CH that I would pass on: Don’t Make Me Angry and Titan’s Strength. Energy Retention in VK is a waste of talent points.
I guess I’m not seeing the synergy between justicar and inquisitor. Are you using 0 points in inquisitor and just spamming vex? Or are you using bolt of judgment to get convictions at range? And how does that interact with Doctrine of Righteousness? (you said get 16 for doc of right if you were using inquis as a 3rd tree). Right now I’m using 16 Just/22 sham/0 inquis at level 29. What do you think?
At endgame, Inq offers a lot for 12 points. But I agree with you that Inq is not a good choice for a 0-pt 3rd tree, I realized this after re-rolling last night.

What happen to your rogue experiment? you didnt like it ? or is it underpowered
I’ve decided I wanted to play a class with better healing capability.
Bard can heal but just based on playing in the 10-19 bracket with Bard, Chloro, and Cleric, Chloro and Cleric have better mechanics. The 20-yd range on Cadence is too short IMO, and overall Chloro seems to “flow” better than Bard in terms of healing. But then again AFAIK Chloro is considered a main healer spec whereas Bard is support.
And I’ve always gravitated towards melee healers (LOTRO Captain, Allods Melee Healer, WoW Prot Pally, etc).

Thanks for your replys, I gather you are trying 12 Justicar/ (all the rest?) Sham/0 Warden and 12+ Justicar/(all the overflow?)Shaman/0 Warden. Which do you like better so far? I’ve been trying both as well and cant decide which is more effective. I think I definately have more survivablility with 12+ in Justicar, but I lose a lot of the burst from Shaman tree. Would appreciate any first impressions you have, before you post your videos. Thanks.

There are some great people I met on Harrow. The odd thing on Harrow is that there seems to be many more level 50 Defiant players than Guardians, but the Guardians have the more-skilled PVP players.

That is exactly the reason I didn’t roll on Sunrest on Day 1 of Head Start. I couldn’t wait 2+ hours for the login queue, and I had never played the game so I was itching to get in and see for myself.

I’m Ladies on Sunrest, not sure what he will be yet.
All we’re asking people for the guild is the following:
1. own your gear / leveling / ranking and rune properly. It’s OK to ask for help, but don’t expect to be carried
2. don’t complain / whine
3. since we’re into PVP, be willing to play as a team and give / receive feedback

Followed you over to Sunrest with a few people I know and were currently leveling our Clerics (LoL we accidently all rolled clerics, but its fine as were speccing into different roles.) I am enjoying my stay and the warfront chat seems to be a bit better. I have a question:
How is your DPS as a Sham/Just/? going. At level 18 Im finding the shaman DPS to be putird. The main problem im having is that massive blow seems to be the crux of the Soul, and you dont get the main procs and talents you need to higher levels. I abandoned it because I was pitiful in my shaman/druid build and went Cabalist where I saw a huge increase in DPS. Are you running more as a healer or are you having some of the same problems I am having with Shaman DPS?
Oh and if you ever want to run WFs, just hit me up. I can bring my friends fo a full group :) My toon is Excelsiorr
