GW2 tournament finals video #4, featuring my “Run and Gun” Warrior build. The competing teams are Maven and Lamentation.
In this educational video, I discuss:
- Assessing the enemy team composition to determine initial target priority
- Applying buffs before entering a fight so that you can focus your abilities in-combat on attacks
- Timing of the Rifle Burst ability
For detailed information on the spec’s mechanics / traits / gear, please see the Guide to “Run and Gun” Warrior Build.

Guten Tag!

Those specs can all be found on this blog.

I see you are using some other skills here. Mind updating your spec in run and gun guide or are you just testing out some new stuff?
“Run and Gun” is up-to-date, see the link in the article above.
I could have sworn you were using bolas in there and some other skill instead of whats in the guide. Seems its my mistake, thanks for your reply.
One option you could employ when attacking a trebuchet is to take advantage of rifle’s pierce ability and place yourself on the far side of the trebuchet against an enemy. Your rifle shots will damage the treb as you fire through to your enemy and the treb can block enemy attacks. Continue to maneuver around the treb to keep it between you and your enemy.
Awesome advice.
Taugrim,
Have you given opinions on any of the other classes on the site? I ask because I’ve rolled Elementalist in final, and I’m really uncertain about this decision. We took a lot of hits over the course of the Beta weekends, and sometimes I can’t help but feel that we’re on the short end of the stick compared to many. What is your opinion of the Elementalist class?
D/D can pack some serious punch in sPvP. S/D can too, but it’s very reliant on immobilizes to land the big burst (Dragon’s Tooth et al combo).
It’s good, but you have to do a lot of stance dancing.
Thanks again Taugrim. Always enjoy your explanations and teaching methods. You have any plans to stream live for gw2?
At some point I’d like to stream, but I’m buried IRL with work and producing content for this blog.
Taugrim, I am running an interesting combination of your run and gun spec with your captain hammer spec.
I find that in both SPVP and WvW the rifle is just the better option. However, having the ability to heal with shouts is invaluable. I have had great success with rifle and axe/axe or axe/horn with the following build:

Thoughts?
I would recommend retaining the warhorn for the 2nd weapon set instead of offhand axe. Mobility is king in WvW and in sPvP.
The extent to which you can heal meaningfully depends on whether or not you take the Cleric’s Amulet, in which case your crit % will take a huge hit.
Always tradeoffs for any spec!
What’s up, Taugrim? I’m diving into GW2! Just wondering what server you’re on. It’ll probably take a bit for me to get into a groove with it, as I’m in the middle of PC upgrading and starting up some classes, but I figured I may as well start up on a place with at least one friendly face.
Keep up the excellent content!

Whoops. Couldn’t send privately via YouTube.
We’re on Blackgate.
You should apply to our guild if you’re looking for a home. As we played together extensively I can vouch for you.

Hey Taugrim, could you take a look at this Thief Gun build I’m working on, and give some advice?
Its Called ‘Signet Initiative Reload’, it uses signets to fuel initiative.

my comments/experience:
– The Defense is incredibly active. If your quick & think fast, you have many ways of refiling endurance for dodges & using both the Shortbow and pistols to mitigate damage.
– The healing is mostly passive with condition removal every 12 seconds with the signet (kinda weak).
– The burst is pretty insane…you can spam unload or cluster bomb while roll-dodging for more might stacks/caltrops.
– vs casters you can alternate between headshot & vital shot for pretty good lockdown (also dagger storm vs minions/illusions)
– black-powder is incredibly effective at times, and can really turn the tides of a XvX
